Google Local Services Ads for Lawyers

Jonathan Mahler · 5 min read

Google Local Services Ads for lawyers sit above the regular search ads for some legal queries. They are not Google Ads. You do not bid on keywords in the same auction. Google screens the firm, shows a “Google Guaranteed” style unit where it offers the product, and you pay per lead, not per click.

Owners mix the two because both show up on Google and both can drain a budget. The paid hub for auction PPC is lawyer advertising and PPC. Personal injury auction work is PI lawyer advertising. This page is only LSA.

What you are buying

Local Services Ads (sometimes searched as local service ads for lawyers) are a lead product. Google wants availability, a service area, categories it will actually sell, and a dispute process when a lead is junk. If your intake hours are “someone checks the portal tomorrow,” you will pay for leads that went to the firm that answered in two minutes.

I will not publish an LSA cost-per-lead from Conduit here. Markets and categories move that number, and a screenshot without the dispute log is how vendors lie. Judge LSA the same way we judge auction ads: cost per signed case after a fair sample, or pause.

LSA vs Google Ads

  • LSA: pay per lead, Google screens, limited categories, message/call in Google’s UI.
  • Google Ads: pay per click (or your bid strategy), you write the query list, you own the landing page.
  • Both still need call tracking that survives into the matter. A Google lead with no source on the file is a rumor.

Facebook vs search is a different split; that comparison is Facebook ads vs Google Ads for lawyers.

Where LSA breaks for PI firms

Categories and coverage are the first filter. If Google will not sell your practice in your city, there is no clever campaign structure to invent. Do not let an agency “also turn on LSA” inside a Google Ads retainer and call it a strategy.

The second break is disputes. Bad leads happen. If nobody on your side reviews them weekly, you donate margin. The third is the same 47-step intake problem I keep repeating because it keeps being true: a screened lead into a voicemail is still a wasted lead.

When to skip it

Skip LSA if you cannot answer the phone during the hours you claim. Skip it if you wanted keyword control and a custom landing page; that is Google Ads. Skip it if the category is not offered. Run it when Google actually sells your work, intake is staffed, and you can read disputes without a folklore story about “Google sending junk.”

Book a 15-minute strategy call if you want paid media judged by signed cases, including whether LSA belongs in the mix at all.
