Facebook Ads vs Google Ads for Lawyers

Jonathan Mahler · 3 min read

Firms ask for Facebook ads for lawyers or Google Ads for lawyers as if one platform is the strategy. They solve different jobs. Search captures someone who already typed a problem. Social interrupts someone who did not. You can run both. You should not pretend they share a funnel.

Google Ads captures demand

PPC for lawyers and PPC for law firms live on search. The query is the brief. That is why legal CPCs are high and why a generic homepage landing page burns budget. The paid hub is lawyer advertising and PPC. Google Ads for law firms is the search channel on that page — not the whole offer.

Personal injury is large enough to be its own spoke: PI lawyer advertising, ads, and commercials share one URL so we do not split that cluster across four pages.

Facebook and Instagram create demand

Facebook ads for law firms (and Instagram, in the same ads manager) need creative, a tight audience, and a landing page that teaches the offer. There is no query to hide behind. If the first comment you get is “how much,” the ad promised a result the page will not state — rewrite it. RPC still applies on social.

Remarketing site visitors is usually the honest first Facebook test: they already know the firm. Cold interest targeting without a specific offer is how legal social spend disappears.

What both share

  • A landing page built for the campaign, not the homepage nav.
  • Call tracking and form source that survive into intake.
  • A weekly read of cost per qualified intake — not CTR theater.
  • A stop rule. If you cannot name a signed-case cost after a fair sample, pause.

We will not publish a platform ROAS here. Markets, practice areas, and intake speed move the number more than the logo on the ads manager.

A simple split

Use Google when people already search the work — car accident lawyer, workplace injury attorney. Use Facebook when you are launching a market, remarketing site visitors, or testing a message before you buy the expensive query. PI lawyer marketing (organic) stays off this comparison. Paid and organic should link, not share a title.

People also search the phrases themselves. “Facebook ads for lawyers” is a larger information query than “Google Ads for law firms.” This post covers that comparison. The transactional paid work still lives on the advertising hub.

If you want the channels run under one MSA, that is law firm marketing plus services. Book a strategy call with your current spend and intake path — not a screenshot of someone else’s CPM.
