Google Business Profile for Lawyers
Jonathan Mahler · 3 min read
Google Business Profile for lawyers is not a listing you set once. It is the local pack’s front door. Google’s published local guidance still comes down to relevance, distance, and prominence. GBP is where those signals are easiest to break — wrong category, stale hours, a phone number that does not match the site.
Categories and service areas
Pick the primary category that matches the cases you will take. Extra categories are not a keyword dump. Service areas should match the cities you have a real location page for. Claiming twelve suburbs you will not drive to trains the profile to look busy and rank nowhere useful.
If the firm has more than one staffed office, each location needs its own profile and its own NAP. Do not stretch one pin across a state and hope the map pack is generous.
NAP has to agree with the site
Name, address, and phone on GBP, the website footer, schema, and the directories you still care about must match. A second tracking number on the site that never appears on the profile looks like two firms. LawVert keeps NAP consistent on purpose — that is local SEO hygiene, not a citation blast.
Photos, posts, and reviews are operations
Photos of the office, the team, and the street beat stock gavels. Posts should point at a real URL — a practice-area page or a blog post — not a dead promo. Reviews need a lawful ask and a response habit. None of that replaces a city page with courts and roads. GBP and the site have to tell the same story.
What we do not do
We do not sell fake reviews. We do not publish a citation count as a ranking guarantee. We do not treat GBP as a substitute for law firm SEO. The map pack and organic are siblings. Firms that only “optimize the listing” still lose when the website is a brochure.
How this spoke fits the hub
Law firm local SEO is the hub. This post is the GBP spoke — the query for lawyers who already know the product name. City-page architecture and geo-modified keywords stay on the hub. If you want both run as operations, that is the managed local work under law firm marketing.
For the organic proof we can cite, see Conduit Law’s Search Console numbers — 7.61K clicks and 2.0M impressions in twelve months. Local pack performance is not in that public extract, so we will not invent a map-pack graph here.
