Website design

What the Best Law Firm Websites Actually Share

Jonathan Mahler · 3 min read

People search best law firm websites when they are about to spend money on a redesign. The useful answer is not a beauty contest. The sites that compound search and intake share a short list of operator traits — and most “award” galleries skip them.

They are designed to be crawled

Law firm website design that Google cannot read is a brochure with a hosting bill. The best attorney and lawyer websites ship HTML first: server-rendered pages, real titles, and schema on the templates that matter — Organization, LegalService, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList.

If a redesign starts with a hero video and leaves the sitemap for later, you already know how the next year of Search Console will look. Titles stay at or under 60 characters. Descriptions stay at or under 160. Brand goes at the end. That is not style preference. Google truncates the rest.

They scale pages without a rebuild

Owner-led PI firms do not stay in one city. The best law firm websites treat location pages, practice-area pages, and the blog as a system — one template, local facts, one canonical URL per city. Template swaps that only change the municipality name do not rank, and they waste the design spend.

The stack we run on conduit.law is the named example we can stand behind: 668+ indexed pages, 508 location URLs, 25 practice areas, 91 blog posts, four states. That is architecture, not a one-off landing page. When a new market opens, the page type already exists.

They ship tools people actually search

In July 2026, Conduit’s top Google page was not a partner bio. It was /settlement-calculator — 811 clicks that month, almost all of the site’s growth on that URL. The next useful pages were a witness-statement guide and a diminished-value calculator. The best law firm websites make room for utilities that match how injured people search, then put intake next to the answer.

The conversion path is part of the design

A tired caller on a phone should be able to start intake without hunting. July traffic on Conduit was 1,440 mobile clicks versus 610 desktop. Attorney website design that is “fine on a monitor” is unfinished. Keep click-to-call, a short form, and source tracking on the same page that ranked.

Public copy stays RPC-safe

Legal website design is also a compliance surface. No guarantees, no invented results, no shots at other firms. Voice can still be specific. If a page cannot say how a case actually moved, it should stay quiet.

What we do not put on a “best of” list

We do not rank competitor sites here. We do not invent traffic numbers we cannot source. The public proof we publish for Conduit Law — 7.61K Google clicks and 2.0M impressions from October 2025 through August 2026, 162 organic-search leads and 66 SEO-attributed signed cases in the trailing year — lives on the Conduit Law case study. Use that as the bar, not a collage of other firms’ homepages.
